Role of a Petroleum Engineer:

The mining of petrol is one of the most important aspects of Petroleum Engineering. A Petroleum Engineer should properly plan, design and execute the mining of petroleum. The Petroleum Engineer is also responsible in managing the material resources as well as supervising the drilling processes.

Career Prospects:

Petroleum Engineering offers excellent career opportunities to the graduates. The scope for freshers in public firms is very high. The corporate sector also provides ample space for the fresh graduates to set in. The various fields offered in this sector include the exploration, extraction and production of petroleum.

This field always suffers in short supply of professionals. Due to the ever increasing demand of safe sources of energy, it is worth to gain a degree in the field of Petroleum Engineering. One can also join hands with the research field by implementing new ideas which in turn contributes to the growth of this industry.

The Petroleum Engineering is regarded as a course which is in great demand among many students. Petroleum Engineers are involved in working in areas of oil and natural gas production and extraction. The demand for this course is very high in India as well as abroad.

Area of Work:

The candidates who get qualified in Petroleum Engineering are mainly involved in the areas of production and extraction of the various natural gases. The Petroleum Engineers mainly do the work of producing as well as develop new methods involved in extracting new petroleum products. An important aspect to be noted is that the scope of the program is not only in the production of natural gases but also has its application in other areas as well. The adequate methods regarding the refining process need to be identified which is one of the significant aspects in this area as the oil or the natural gases that have been explored do not become useful until and unless it is refined. The role of Petroleum Engineer also involves the sale and distribution of these products in to the market as a whole. The contribution of a Petroleum Engineer cannot be ignored because they get involved in many areas which prove to be important in daily lives of the people.

Career Avenues:

Petroleum Engineering offers excellent career opportunities to the graduates though the work is really challenging. The scope for freshers in public firms is very high. The candidates will generally get employed in various petroleum refinery companies. Apart from the opportunities available in India, the candidates also have enough opportunities abroad. The general scenario being that the demand for the products related to petroleum is rising day by day which may also lead to the job creation in this area. The Petroleum Engineers also get jobs in oil rigs. There are many government companies in this area such as Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., Oil India Limited, HPCL (Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited), and ONGC (Oil and Natural Gas Corporation) etc which provide opportunities for qualified Petroleum Engineers. The work involved is highly technical. The pay package involved in this sector is highly lucrative. The Petroleum Engineers are offered salaries which will be mainly based on the experience, skills etc in the concerned areas. The corporate sector also provides ample space for the fresh graduates to set in. The various fields offered in this sector include the exploration, extraction and production of petroleum.

Over the past several years, the petroleum industry in India has played an influential role in initiating the fast expansion of the economy of the country by contributing as high as 15% to the Gross Domestic Product of India. In addition, exports by this sector also gave new height to the foreign exchange earnings.

This field always suffers in short supply of professionals. Due to the ever increasing demand of safe sources of energy, it is worth to gain a degree in the field of Petroleum Engineering. One can also join hands with the research field by implementing new ideas which in turn contributes to the growth of this industry. So, the Petroleum Engineering is regarded as a course which is in great demand among many students and more interest among students is required in this field.

Above all, the sector offers wide range of employment opportunities through the public and private sector companies operating under its purview.
