Biochemistry and Instrumentation Laboratory   

This lab provides an in-depth first hand knowledge of various instrumental techniques, with special emphasis on real time spectrometers. Experiments for both qualitative and quantitative analysis of bimolecular proteins like DNA, RNA etc are carried out with the aid of a wide variety of equipment like colorimeters, spectrophotometers, fluorimeters, conductivity meters etc.,. Separation techniques like paper, column and thin layer chromatography are also practiced. Extraction of few medicinally important compounds like caffeine helps the students to have an idea of the usage and advantage of techniques like refluxing and vacuum distillation.

Microbial Technology Laboratory   

This lab will enable students to understand and describe staining characteristics, media selection, incubation conditions, colonial morphology, biochemical and serological reactions, and antibiotic sensitivity patterns of routine Bacteria, Viruses, and Parasites etc. students gain acquaintance with the microbial technology skills by working with state of art equipment like Laminar Flow Chamber, Orbital Shaking Incubator, Vertical Autoclave etc,.

Molecular Biology and Genetic Engineering Laboratory   

The objective of this lab is to provide a working knowledge of fundamental and advanced techniques like PCR, Blotting Techniques and Electrophoresis etc., that are used for the separation of amplification and cloning of isolated DNA into various types of vectors. The screening of such recombinants is carried out. Also the demonstration of mutagenesis helps the students to understand the mutation phenomenon.

Tissue Culture and Immunology Laboratory   

In this laboratory students will be taught to carry out in vitro creation of new plantlets and thereby learn the art and science of plant multiplication. With the aid of available modern trend and instruments, students will practice the various steps involved in the application of this technology like - stock plant care, explant selection and sterilization, media manipulation to obtain proliferation, rooting, acclimatization and growing in sterile cultures to maintain parent lines. Students are exposed to clinical medicine and will be assigned laboratory exercises for acquainting them with the latest advances in immunological techniques today.

Bioprocess Engineering and Downstream Processing Laboratory   

In this lab, the high yield producing biocatalysts & enzymes are extracted and an assay of them is carried out. Students learn to understand & determine the Optimal conditions for the usage of enzymes towards the profitable running of industries. Expertise on various immobilizing techniques is imparted for the easy separation, recycle and reuse of enzymes. Students will also practise various industrial level downstream processing techniques like cooling centrifugation, plate & frame filtration, shell & leaf filtration in addition to learning general laboratory scale techniques like chromatography, sedimentation, precipitation etc.


The laboratory has a well organised and independent computer set up with 24 hours high speed internet connection for carrying out practicals in various areas of Bioinformatics, like computer programming , access to Bioinformatics tools, structure visualization, structure modeling etc. Students also use the facility to carry out academic projects related to the field.

Supporting Laboratories   

Chemical Reaction Engineering Lab   

Students understand the performance characteristics and the advantages and disadvantages of major reactor types. Principles of chemical reactor analysis and design. Experimental determination of rate equations, design of batch and continuous reactors.

Mass Transfer Operations Lab   

This laboratory is associated with the course mass transfer operations. It provides an opportunity for the students to conduct experiments relating to various ways of separation techniques. and also determine the overall mass transfer coefficient by conducting the extraction, absorption and adsorption techniques.

Instrumentation and Process Control Lab   

Understand the dynamic characteristic of the first order and second order systems by taking some examples of the systems, first order systems connected in series-interacting and non-interacting systems.

Fluid Mechanics and Heat Transfer Lab   

This lab consists of several experimental setups for verifying the basic laws of fluid mechanics and some flow measuring devices, also helps to learn the working principle of the different types of pumps. Observing the nature of the heat flow, and understanding the working principle of conduction, convection and radiation.
